San Francisco is what one would call an art town. We've got a lively scene here--world class ballet, opera, museums, and numerous music hall venues. All neatly packed within a trim 7 x 7 miles. Advertisements all throughout the city tout the latest exhibitions and performances on billboards, busses, and magazines. And people typically flock. They are like the lion at the zoo. Everyone goes for the lion, right?
The Art Collective will be featuring some new works on display at the June exhibition in Brighton which starts on the 7th June. The exhibition runs for two weeks and will include new works from portrait artist Patrick M Lee and we will be introducing Maria Kuipers. We originally met Maria Kuipers through an incredible organisation called Creative Future.
My work 'Walls of Chlorophyll' is a thought, raising questions about the symbiosis between human beings and nature, and making us question where we are now, and where we are headed to. The majority of our existence is spent indoors. We are born indoors, we build walls to create a sense of security. Groups of human bodies are held in containers. We become conscious of the fictitious reality in which we live in: static air without breeze, false colour from artificial light.
It is the last chance to 'meet the artists' at the Art Collective show in Brighton. This Saturday 14th April, from 5pm at Gallery 40, 40 Gloucester Road, Brighton BN1 4AQ. This is a great opportunity to have a relaxed discussion with the artists about their work. Painters, photographers and illustrators will be at the gallery. Sign up to our newsletter to receive more information about this and future events.
Currently on at Pallant House Chichester.
The seated man watching the Musicians at Marrakesh is – at least in the mind of Keith Vaughan – the artist himself looking on and listening in. The massive back, bottle-top head and wayward limbs are grey and lumpen. The musicians, by contrast, are glowing, creamy and luminous: the ochre drum, a radiant little sun, the cross-legged player as neat and focused as his observer is awkward.
“You are a photographer, where is your camera?!” Was my brothers reaction to me being camera less today, but in fact I quite like it.
We are looking to support a few more artists this year. We offer artists great opportunities to get their work shown at exhibitions, and get their profile raised through the work we do with our press team and our relationships with the media. Art work will get published in our art catalogues which gets distributed to the public and direct to art collectors. During the later half of 2012 and into 2013 we will also be entering our artists into select art fairs.
The Art Collective will be at Gallery 40, 40 Gloucester Road in Brighton, 5th-22nd April. A selection of modern and contemporary art from our portfolio will be on show including paintings, photography and illustration. The exhibit will introduce new photographer Celine Marchbank, it will include a special range of signed and mounted first edition prints, and for the first time in the UK we will be exhibiting some of Lance Hewison's oil on canvas paintings. Sign up to receive an invite to the late opening on Sat 7th April.
Celine Marchbank, a newcomer to the Art Collective, was shortlisted by the 'Deutsche Bank Award for Photography' for her book 'Tulip'.
