Are you inspired by the times we live in?

In the Guardian recently, David Hare was saying that he feels so confounded by world events that he is uncertain what to write. Is the opposite true for visual artists? Is it times like these that inspire you to be creative and produce your best? Or are you finding current events too depressing and prefer your art to be reflective of optimism and happy times?

I think it can inspire great artistic work in all forms of art,we should all try to be responsible in creating thoughtful work that says something about these rocky times. It was great that PJ Harvey won the Mercury award for Let England Shake, it seems rare for something good to come out that makes a statement of the times we live in.
